Basic Info
Name:Sam Tyler
Bio
There are spoilers for the end of the series in this profile and journal. If you have yet to see it, you've been warned. I'll try to mark things as best I can.

I imagine this would also probably spoil the American series, though I'm not sure where they're going with it. Consider it a warning for that one, too, just to be safe.

Sam Tyler was the DCI on the Greater Manchester Police Force in 2006, until one day he was hit by a car and woke up in 1973. Unsure whether he was in a coma and dreaming, mad, or if he had actually gone back in time, he found himself as a DI in the contemporary Manchester police department, under the command of DCI Gene Hunt, a racist, sexist, homophobic, slightly-dirty copper with a drinking problem and a fierce sense of duty.

Sam's more modern viewpoints and police procedures put him at odds with the "old school" members of DCI Hunt's squad, but they learned, after a time, to work together as a team.

As time passed, Sam tried to figure out how to get home to 2006. He devoted his life to it, ignoring his increasing feelings for WDC Annie Cartwright and the fact that he was starting to fit in better in 1973 than he expected.

Eventually, Sam discovered the cause of his trip to 1973, and was able to go home. But once back in 2006, he realized that he wasn't really living in 2006, and committed suicide, happy to spend eternity "alive" in 1973.

After seven years, Sam drove into the river during the course of a high-speed pursuit. The car was recovered, but Sam's body was never found...

Where he is now is anyone's guess. Even his own.

[Note: For the purposes of roleplaying, I have give Sam two universes. This will ease up some handwaving I had to do to allow him to interact with modern characters, and will set him apart from other Sams in the RP world.

The Now Verse, in which Sam was woken up from a coma, against his will, three years after he attempted suicide by jumping off the roof. This explains his disappearance in the dream/death world. For now, this is Sam's default verse when interacting in various RP communities, though he'll still interact with characters from the 70s as if they're perfectly real and nothing much to worry about.

The Then Verse covers his time from 1973 - 1980 in the dream/death world. ]

I'm not really Sam Tyler. I'm not John Simm, either. I don't own either one of them, and I'm in no way affiliated with the BBC. Just here for fun.

Because this has come up several times in the mere days since I created this journal, Sam Tyler is not the Master in disguise. He's Sam Tyler and, as far as he's concerned, the Doctor is a fictional character he used to watch on telly as a child.
